The Best Maui Restaurants
Jan 12 , 2012
Maui is the second biggest island of Hawaii. When you’re on an island with so many choices, it’s important to have a plan when you’re deciding where to stay, what to do, and where to eat. To make that planning easier, we’ve put together this list of the top Maui restaurants.
Haliimaile General Store
The Haliimaile General Store is one of the best Maui restaurants and is loved by locals and tourists alike. The menu features many mouth-watering items, and you can enjoy your entrée for half-price on Mondays if you bring a donation for the Maui Food Bank. We recommend going to the Haliimaile General Store on Wednesdays and Thursdays for Tapas Nights, which take place in the Plantation Room. At Tapas Nights, you can dine on reasonably priced tapas like “Hawaiian Lobster Slider” and “Hunan-style Beef Brisket Sliders” while enjoying live music performances.
Lahaina Grill
The award-winning restaurant prides itself on dishes like the “Kona Lobster Crab Cake” and “Kalua Duck.” The “Grilled Polenta Stack” is an excellent choice for vegetarians, as it includes a satisfying medley of tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and mushrooms. The Lahaina Grill is one of the top Maui restaurants for fine dining, and entrees are approximately $30 and up. The beautiful art that decorates the walls of Lahaina Grill is by Maui artist Jan Kasprzycki. You can also purchase charger plates designed by Kasprzycki, which makes a sophisticated souvenir that will be a great addition to your home.
Pineapple Grill
Established in 2005, the Pineapple Grill at the Kapalua Resort is a relatively recent restaurant that has already made a name for itself in Maui. The Pineapple Grill earned “Restaurant of the Year” from Maui No Ka ‘Oi Magazine’s Ai’pono Awards for several years in a row. The bar and restaurant features vibrant, island-themed décor, and we suggest going to the Pineapple Grill on the weekends for brunch, which features specials from Chef and Maui native Ryan Luckey.
Hula Grill
The Hula Grill is on the scenic Kaanapali Beach and boasts great Hawaiian cuisine. Between 5:00-6:00 pm, you can order a fixed-price, three-course menu in which some of the profits are given to a Hawaiian charity. Or, you can choose from the restaurant’s dinner menu—just make sure to save room for the Pineapple Upside-Down Cake. Hula Grill also provides entertainment like live music.
Mama’s Fish House
Mama’s Fish House has been a Maui establishment since 1973 and resides in what used to be a beach house. Headed by Chief Engineer Scott Burns, the restaurant’s environmental initiatives include making fertilizer out of food waste as well as using produce from Burns’s own garden. The menu offers an array of fish—like salmon, opakapaka, ahi, and mahimahi—as well as other seafood like prawns and clams.
