The Top 10 Maui Beaches

Jan 12 , 2012

Maui has been rated among the best islands in the world, largely because it has many of the most sensational seashores in the world. Check online or call the surf news network for the latest surf and safety updates, gather your favorite ocean toys and head for some of Maui’s top 10 beaches.

1. D. T. Fleming Beach Park

This beach in Kapalua has it all. Lifeguards, restrooms, showers, picnic area, surfing, snorkeling, swimming, diving, body boarding and room for five football fields end to end. Sunbathe or relax under the ironwood trees and feel rejuvenated. Gaze across the sea as Humpback whales pass between tranquil Molokai and lovely Lanai. All this and more make D. T. Fleming Beach Park the number 1 beach on Maui.

2. Ka’anapali Beach Park

Also known as Dig Me Beach, or Black Rock Beach, Ka’anapali Beach stretches for 4 miles. Fine white coral sand and a great big black lava monolith to dive from create a truly spectacular vista.  Don’t miss the sunset torch dive at the number 2 on the list of Maui’s 10 best beaches.

3. H.A. Baldwin Beach Park

Found on the north shore of Maui, by Paia, lies charming H. A. Baldwin Beach Park. There are lifeguards, restrooms and showers and a protected lagoon. Enjoy the sun or take shelter under the ironwood trees at number 3 of the top 10 Maui beaches.

4. Baby Beach

Continuing East from Paia, we find number 4, Baby Beach, where many have taken their first dip in the sea. A delightful natural lagoon provides calm waters and tide pools to explore.

5. Ho’okipa Beach Park

Ho’okipa tops off the north shore’s best. Windsurfers from around the world gather at Ho’okipa, which is the Hawaiian word for hospitality. The offshore reef generates great waves and provides calmer shoreline swimming. Lifeguards, restrooms and showers qualify Ho’okipa as number 5 of the top 10 Maui beaches.

6. Wai’anapanapa State Park

Wai’anapanapa, glistening waters in Hawaiian, is a 122-acre state park on Maui’s eastern shore. It encompasses a lovely black sand beach, dramatic sea caves, a natural stone arch and campground.  Be sure to see the Waiomao caves, a pair of unique lava tubes filled with pure blue and green seawater. Check out the neighboring beach of Honokalani and experience the wondrous sight of a naturally curving sea arch.  Together, they encompass number 6 of Maui’s top 10 beaches.

7. Makena Beach Park

On Maui’s southwestern shore we find one of the island’s biggest beaches, Makena or Maluku, more commonly known as Big Beach (Oneloa) and Little Beach (Puu Olai).  With the islands of Kahoolawe and Molokini just offshore, the view is breathtaking. In winter, whale watching is at its best here making Makena number 7 of the top 10 beaches on Maui.

8. Wailea Beach Park

Wailea features black lava flows at each end in stark contrast to the shimmering golden sand. Excellent swimming and snorkeling are found here at number 8 of the 10 best beaches on Maui.

9. Charlie Young Beach

The south shore town of Kihei is a family fun destination featuring many beautiful beaches. One of the finest is the Charley Young Beach. Three acres of the softest sand imaginable, lifeguards, restrooms and showers make Charley Young along with neighboring Kamaole 1,2 &3 Beach Parks together number 9 of the 10 best beaches on Maui.

10. Hanokao’o Beach Park

Rounding out our circumnavigation of the island brings us to Maui’s western shores where Hanokao’o Beach Park also known as Canoe Beach lies just south of the Hyatt resort.  Lifeguards, restrooms, showers and gentle waves create a peaceful ambiance and earn Hanokao’o Beach Park the number 10 slot of Maui’s 10 best beaches.

After spending a few days on the beach, discover all that Maui has to offer with these tourist activities.
